Release Notes
What changed in each release of Cordelia and Kent, newest first.
Cordelia, the desktop application for Garmin
.FITfilesKent, the command-line tool for the same databases
Cordelia
Cordelia 1.3.3
cordelia --version now prints a short report: Cordelia's own version, then each library it uses, indented beneath it, ending with the GTK, libadwaita and GLib on your system. A new --devinfo flag adds the commit each one was built from, which is what to include in a defect report. The About Cordelia dialog carries the same report.
While an import or export runs, the Database panel hides its buttons, so a database can't be closed or replaced partway through. They come back when the operation finishes or you cancel it.
Cordelia now uses zlib-ng in place of zlib to read .zip files and write XLSX workbooks. About Cordelia names it, and its Legal list gains GTK, libadwaita and GLib with their license text.
If undoing a failed import step itself fails, the console now says so.
Cordelia 1.3.2
The application icons carried metadata left behind by the tool that converted them; it's gone now, and the icons look exactly the same. Two field descriptions on the data dictionary page were garbled and now read correctly.
Cordelia 1.3.1
The privacy policy, in all six languages, now gives help@venholaconsulting.ca as the contact address, and the version Cordelia reports always matches the build it came from.
Cordelia 1.3.0
Schema version 2: monitoring intensity, ascent and descent are stored as decimal numbers. A .zip file can now hold several .FIT files, in folders if you like, and anything else inside it is skipped. The file chooser also lists .zip files now, which it didn't before.
Cordelia 1.2.3
Finishes the number fix from 1.2.2, which missed CSV export and still wrote some values in exponential notation. Eight daily monitoring fields, including heart rate, intensity, ascent and descent, were never imported and always read as zero; they're now imported and exported. You can also import a .zip file.
Cordelia 1.2.2
Large decimal numbers were rounded to six significant digits and shown in exponential notation. For array fields, the rounded value was also what got stored, so precision was lost at import: eight different heart-rate event timestamps were saved as two. Numbers are now written in full.
Databases imported with an earlier version still hold the rounded values. Import the .FIT files again to get them back.
Cordelia 1.2.1
Databases created by this release carry a schema version, and Cordelia won't open a database older than the one it expects; it says why instead. A FIT code Cordelia has no name for now shows its number rather than "Unmapped code".
Exporting to a .FIT file leaves out records that have no timestamp of their own, which includes most heart-rate and monitoring records. Cordelia used to do that without a word; the console now says how many records it skipped from each table. The DeviceInfo table is no longer skipped on export, settings are saved when Cordelia is installed from the .tar.gz, and the "all" sport value has a name.
Updated to FIT SDK 21.214.0, which adds wheelchair activities and push counts.
Cordelia 1.2.0
Fields that Garmin stores as numeric codes, such as sport, event type and lap trigger, now display as readable names in your chosen language. The codes themselves stay in your database, and two new lookup tables hold their names, so your own queries can use them too. The help page "The better_labels Lookup Tables" explains how.
Timestamp columns that still held raw Garmin numbers now hold ISO 8601 dates and times, like the rest.
Cordelia 1.1.1
Fixes Help, which always opened the English help pages whatever language Cordelia was set to.
Cordelia 1.1.0
Cordelia is now available in French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese as well as English. Import and export show how many files are done out of the total, and the desktop icon is new.
This release was a .tar.gz download only; the Flatpak stayed at 1.0.1.
Cordelia 1.0.1
Fixes the Tables panel, which kept showing the old rows after you picked a different table, and corrects the FIT SDK license text in the license dialog. Field descriptions stored in the database now match the published field reference, and installing from the Flatpak repository no longer fails.
Cordelia 1.0.0
The first release of Cordelia, in English, for 64-bit Linux. It was available as a Flatpak and as a .tar.gz download.
Kent
Kent 1.3.4
kent --version now prints a short report: Kent's own version, then each library it uses, indented beneath it. A new --devinfo flag adds the commit each one was built from, which is what to include in a defect report.
Inside a .kent archive, each table's rows are now stored in a numbered file, tables/00000001.jsonl and so on, rather than one named after the table. A program reading an archive takes the file name from the manifest's tables list, as the format has always required. This also fixes archiving a database whose table name contains a character a file name cannot hold, such as a quote.
A .kent archive and a kent sqldump header now record release versions rather than build identifiers, so two exports of the same database differ only by their timestamp.
Text containing line breaks now survives kent sqldump unchanged on any system, and a failed archive or restore no longer leaves a partial file behind.
Kent 1.3.2
The privacy policy now gives help@venholaconsulting.ca as the contact address, and the version Kent reports always matches the build it came from.
Kent 1.3.1
dump is now sqldump. There are three new commands. activities lists each session with its dates and sport, and sports lists the sport and sub-sport pairs in a database; verify checks a database's actual structure instead of trusting its version stamp. Kent now works with Cordelia schema version 2.
Exports no longer record the full path of the source database, which could include your account name. Only the file name is kept.
Kent 1.2.1
Adds dump, which writes a database out as a .sql script that rebuilds it, to standard output if you leave out --out. With --schema-only it writes just the table definitions, one column per line, and the header names the Cordelia version that defines that schema. dump was renamed sqldump in 1.3.1.
Also new: archive and restore, which write a database to a .kent file and read it back, and files, which lists the .FIT files a database was built from. --license and --privacy print the license and privacy policy. Error messages now go to standard error.
The first release published as a signed .tar.gz download for Linux.
Kent 1.1.0
Adds the info and details commands. Between them they report a database's schema version, the version this build of Kent expects, and how many rows each table holds.
Kent 1.0.0
The first release of Kent, with one command: createdb, which creates an empty Cordelia database.
